The researchers found that people who took Crestor for about two years had a fivefold increased risk of having a heart attack or stroke. The researchers also found that people who took Crestor for three years and then switched to another drug had a fivefold increased risk.

Washington, D. C. --TheWashington State Medical Associationhas recommended that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) not approve the use of Crestor and its generic equivalent in the management of patients with advanced liver disease.
Crestor, which is sold under the brand name Crestor and the generic version Lipitor, has been in the market for several years and has been shown to have similar anti-inflammatory and anti-cholesterol effects as the brand name.

"This is a critical safety issue that we've had before for many years and that's why we're recommending a review of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to address it," said Dr. Domingo.
